Dear Reader,
The July issue of LNE & Spa takes you on an intriguing journey across the globe to learn about therapies, spas, services, treatments and ingredients from far reaching corners of the Earth. Earlier this year, I had the privilege of sitting down with Lanny Juniarti, G.P., and she shared with me her journey from medical school to beauty therapy school. She is both a beauty therapist and a doctor, and she has the drive and passion to help bring top-notch services to her country. Her goal is to educate other professionals in her field of medicine and beauty. Read her story on page 58. Those of you who have ever considered traveling to pursue training in another culture will be interested in Linda Beach’s story on page 64, where she discusses her journey to Bali and how she was inspired by this beautiful island.
Offering an international treatment involves more than just adding an unusual ingredient to your services or featuring a therapy offered in another country to your menu. When you research the philosophy of indigenous therapy, it takes on a life of its own and encapsulates the spirit of the treatment. When a global service is given and the therapist does not understand its origins, the client leaves feeling disappointed and disillusioned. Go above and beyond understanding the importance of the unique new service and give your guests an exceptional spa experience. We tend to overuse the word “experience” in the spa industry, but think about your first kiss, your first car, the birth of your child—no one can take these moments or memories away from you. As professionals, we must give our guests exceptional “experiences” all the time. We are creating memories that touch their minds, bodies and spirits. When we allow our gifts and talents to shine and are able to provide our guests with a superior spa experience, they respond by becoming our faithful clients.
